What my feelings sound like...

There's nothing better to relax and to find relief from anger after an exhausting and frustrating day than a good song like "These Wet Feathers..." from Downfall of Gaia. I like the way it starts... Soft, calm and with those music elements that we usually relate to post-something music genres. It then evolves into something more violent. I like the growls a lot (they remind me of Process of Guilt a lot, but a little more uptempo... if you can understand what I mean :X).

It might "sound" strange to you that I've decided to write in English today (instead of my usual native Portuguese), but I have noticed that most of this blog visits come from outside my own country. Of course, they can be fluent in Portuguese or fully understand it using any website translator tools, but I think that to reach directly the writer's thoughts is a completely different experience. Therefore, in honor of those who do not live and/or do not speak Portuguese, I've decided to write in English, which might not be your mother tongue as well, but at least is the most "universally way" I can find to express myself (besides music videos, of course :P). And I know perfectly well that I might end unintelligible for everyone... At least I did my best to reach most of my readers.

I know I have not been writing much lately... And I am back with another lame excuse (what else could it be? :/). I've been struggling with many things at the same time and it makes me feel sad and disappointed. It's been hard to deal with them and then come here and write something funny that it is just not me. On the other hand, it is also strange to write my blue feelings on a daily basis. Unfortunately, I can not change how I feel, what I am and why I have created this blog. So, prepare yourself for what is about to come...

As you know, this kind of posts come with a music video (usually related to what I'm writing and /or something that I like). I've chosen "Laura" from a very talented girl known as Bat For Lashes. Yeah, I'm bringing some sort of pop/indie music instead of some music genre with the word depressive (as usual). I'm not really sure what is this music about, but it is certainly about someone "who got left behind for some reason and deserved better". I like it a lot. You can find it on Bat for Lashes third album (and her latest one released during this year) "The Haunted Man". Enjoy this wonderful voice in such an embracing song...

Esta recente polémica de troca de vocalista dos Nightwish recordou-me uma banda que não ouço há muito (só ouço quando me lembro de ouvir o que está no meu ipod que não é actualizado desde que o comprei... portanto há uns 6-7 anos...): After Forever. Gostava muito deles há uns anos atrás... Ainda gosto, mas agora a minha disposição auditiva pouco se inclina para estes géneros. Não deixei de gostar, apenas me deixei levar por outras coisas (este género acabou por ficar muito repetitivo para eu querer explorar muito mais). E estas bandas velhinhas trazem-me uma certa nostalgia doutros tempos... Ah! E lembrei-me de After Forever porque era a antiga banda da Floor (actual vocalista ao vivo dos Nightwish). Acho que os Nightwish não podiam ter "escolhido" melhor, pois a voz da Floor varia numa gama impressionante. Sinto falta dos agudos desta menina, sobretudo daqueles que se ouvem nos álbuns   "Prison of Desire" e "Decipher" (o grande mentor destes álbuns foi o Mark Jansen, o fundador dos Epica, que "foi expulso" entretanto dos After Forever, tendo então criado a banda pela qual é mais conhecido). Acho que ouvi em tempos a nova banda dela ReVamp, mas as músicas não me cativaram e tenho pena... Talvez lhe dê uma nova oportunidade só para ouvir a voz da Floor noutro contexto.

Já não me lembro da última vez que teclei aqui. Contudo, a necessidade de vir cá "exteriorizar sons e palavras" permanece.

Não sei se querem a ler as minhas desculpas por ter desaparecido temporariamente: comecei por me deixar levar pelo deserto do Arizona (onde fui totalmente vestida de preto de tão trve e estúpida que sou... digamos que também não existiam muito mais cores na mala que fiz para levar e a minha principal motivação em ir ao Arizona não era o deserto, mas pronto... desculpas...), depois estive uns dias em Lisboa (descanso e concerto de Arkona :D weeeeee... \m/), seguiu-se muito trabalho para compensar ausência e, assim que pude, mergulhei no Quebec, onde ainda tive problemas em sair por causa da Sandy. Ao longo deste percurso todo, andei doente, com tosse, febre, espirros, ranho e tudo a que uma gripe tem direito. Quando regressei, sentia dores no peito que me imobilizavam. Desculpas não se pedem, evitam-se! Contudo, penso que entendem, a partir deste breve parágrafo, que o meu mês de Outubro foi de loucos, daí nunca mais ter cá metido os pés, mais propriamente, os dedos para teclar. Foi de loucos, mas compensador também em muitos aspectos, inclusivamente nos sons (concerto de Arkona em Lisboa \m/). Também teria sido giro ver Nightwish com a Floor em Phoenix (apareceram lá no dia em que eu estava a partir) ou uma daquelas excelentes bandas de black metal do Quebec, mas não houve oportunidade... :'(

Ela já tinha dito que não seria metal, nem folk... E já saiu uma música nova para comprovar tal facto e averiguar a possibilidade da qualidade do que está para vir.

Ainda me sinto a regressar do Entremuralhas deste ano... Excelentes concertos, artistas simpáticos e com histórias para contar, reencontro de amigos, novas amizades, muito divertimento, o encanto dum castelo com mais locais para descobrir, exposições interessantes, gente bonita, uma cidade acolhedora... Para o ano há mais!

O Kim Larsen dos Of The Wand And The Moon não nos brindou com a música que hoje caracteriza o meu estado de espírito. Contudo, deu um concerto magnifíco!

Provenientes da Dinamarca e da Suécia, são uma proposta diferente na minha habitual playlist. A menina vocalista já esteve no nosso país a cantar ao vivo no concerto que os Kamelot deram no Vagos. Sound discovery... Psychonaut 4

Isto de gostar de música, faz-nos descobrir coisas novas. Enquanto ouvia uma selecção de coisas novas para me inspirar no trabalho duro que tinha para fazer, descobri, para além de uma banda nova, um género novo e um país novo. Confesso que senti o QI a aumentar e tudo! (ironic mode ON)

Então... o género novo é Post-Suicidal Black Metal (já não bastava a invenção do Post-Black, do Blackgaze e outros afins mais ou menos semelhantes que levam à mesma coisa). A banda que o "inventou" chama-se Psychonaut 4 e vem da Georgia... E a Georgia é um país cuja localização é esta. Eu desconhecia e peço desculpa se a minha falta de cultura choca alguém, mas geografia nunca foi o meu forte.

É bom conhecer bandas de todos os lugares do mundo. Eu não sou esquisita no que diz respeito a isso. Ouço música de qualquer local do planeta Terra (talvez um dia ouça algo extra-terrestre também... por enquanto não creio que o venha a fazer num futuro próximo) e em qualquer língua. Gosto de ver a forma como diferentes culturas adaptam e incorporam o que assimilam doutras. Gosto ainda mais quando uma banda consegue divulgar o seu trabalho com um toque do que é culturalmente seu e não apenas "absorvido" duma tendência internacional que se generalizou. 

Falando especificamente dos Psychonaut 4, conheço o álbum lançado este ano "Have a Nice Trip". Apesar de se assumirem num novo género, não são propriamente originais. São bastante notórias semelhanças com Lifelover e Shining. Contudo, é uma banda agradável dentro do que o género proporciona. Composições bastante melódicas e as vozes são bem rasgadas (tendo por vezes alguma distorção a ajudar).

Deixo-vos o vídeo de uma banda de que gosto muito. São espanhóis. Já actuaram várias vezes no nosso país. Apesar de terem começado no black metal, parece que cada vez se tornam mais progressivos e o vídeo que vos deixo é uma excelente amostra disso mesmo. Faz parte do álbum "Rara Vez" lançado este ano. O vídeo chama-se "Manipulación" e trata-se de um instrumental que gostei muito de ouvir, apesar de se distanciar um pouco da sonoridade a que me habituaram. E estou a falar-vos de Kathaarsys...

O álbum "Damnation" é sempre bom para as minhas dores de cabeça. Mais saudável do que qualquer comprimido... Só é pena não ter o mesmo efeito no que me atormenta.

A energia de Dark Tranquillity ao vivo é algo extremamente contagiante... Sempre que ouço o álbum ao vivo em Milão (podem ver/ouvir um bocadinho no vídeo), dou por mim a cantar, a abanar a cabeça... e só me apercebo quando tenho olhares na minha direcção. :X E aí páro. Deram o segundo melhor concerto de death metal melódico que já vi!

Ela é Kristina Rocco, uma soprano com uma voz cristalina. Ele é Michael Rocco, o guitarrista. Ambos são americanos (mais concretamente provenientes de Nova Iorque) e formam a banda de funeral doom Herodias. O seu som está algo próximo de Funeral quando tinham uma vocalista feminina. Ambiental, lento, pesado, guturais ocasionais que contrastam com o canto lírico de Kristina. O álbum de estreia foi lançado neste ano de 2012 com o título "Dance of the Seven Veils". Fresh Sounds... "Dead End Kings" dos Katatonia

Confesso que não queria ouvir este primeiro avanço do próximo álbum de Katatonia, pois a última vez que o fiz para o álbum anterior acabei por criar expectativas erradas que influenciaram a primeira impressão que tive. Contudo, gosto tanto de Katatonia que não deu para me conter!! :X E hoje ouvi o single de avanço "Dead Letters" e gostei muito, estando dentro da mesma linha de rock atmosférico e depressivo com peso q.b. a que nos habituaram os mais recentes lançamentos. 

O álbum "Dead End Kings" estará disponível a 27 de Agosto num total de 48 minutos e 47 segundos de novos sons... Mal posso esperar!

O "Emerald" já não chega ao blog em estado lá muito fresco, mas só hoje me apercebi deste EP editado em Março deste ano pelos Arcana. Shame on me!!! Contudo, o álbum "As Bright As A Thousand Suns" está bem fresquinho, tendo saído em finais de Maio. Apesar do longo silêncio (4 anos!!!), o som dos suecos Arcana continua a oscilar entre os sons etéreos e o género neoclássico. Sempre achei que esta banda tem um je ne sai quoi de Dead Can Dance, não concordam? E quem viu o fantástico concerto que deram o ano passado no Entremuralhas? E já agora... quem vai este ano?

Sabe tão bem ouvir isto hoje enquanto me forço a trabalhar...

Da autoria do egípcio Nader Sadek (conhecido pelo seu trabalho com Mayhem), o conteúdo musical do álbum "In The Flesh" da banda a que deu o seu nome (para os que não se lembram do início da frase: Nader Sadek... como vos compreendo!) de 2011 flui agradavelmente entre o peso característico do death metal e algum reduzido experimentalismo. Se não gostam de death metal, passem à frente. Se gostam, é obrigatório. Tive a estranha ideia de escolher o vídeo de uma das faixas mais "experimentais" ("Nigredo in Necromance"), mas excelente como todas as outras do álbum.

Acho que é fácil constatar que tive uma fase menos boa nos últimos tempos. Perdi-me, deixei-me ir abaixo, bati no fundo, mas penso que recuperei e voltei à superfície com motivação reforçada para vos melgar com os posts do costume e o meu estranho gosto musical. :)

I feel like I have been loosing small pieces of myself lately. I don't recognise myself in what I feel right now.  I put everything black and grey. I tend to be like that usually, but this is just too much and surely not healthy for me. Thankfully, I think that I figured that out in time. Formaram-se em 1995 e o último álbum data de 2005 ("The Last Moment"), onde se encontra este fantástico "Scars" que tão bem ilustra o meu estado de espírito de hoje.

Há dias em que estou mesmo frágil... acho que se nota bem aqui. :X São esses dias que me trazem mais músicas à cabeça (ou ao coração).

Hoje trago uma música nova dum álbum novo duma banda já velha: A Naifa com o álbum "não se deitam comigo corações obedientes". Gosto bastante deles e este álbum já está na minha lista de compras. :)

O dia de hoje foi mau... Eu estou doente... Tenho as amígdalas inchadas ao ponto de não conseguir comer nem falar (com esforço até consigo, mas pareço uma baleia gigante desajeitada a exprimir sons compreensíveis :X ). Sinto-me cansada, mas o descanso é inútil porque não me traz a paz que preciso e parece que dormir piora o estado das amígdalas. Então, mantenho-me acordada e deixo-me anestesiar pelo trabalho que tenho por fazer. Vou tendo ideias, estabelecendo objectivos, concretizando pequenos passos... Tudo corre bem até levar um murro no estômago e não me apetecer fazer mais nada. Contudo, acho que faz parte. Nem tudo pode correr bem. Levo murros e aguento-me. Respiro fundo e preparo-me para aguentar os próximos (mas é para doer ou não?). Foco-me na melhor oportunidade para me levantar e defender. Agora não é o momento.

Anna-Varney released last year the third part of her (his? - I never know how to define her... :X sorry!) trilogy "A Triptychon of Ghost (or: El Sexorcism de Anna-Varney Cantodea)" named "Children of the Corn" (is it related to the Stephen's King "Children of the Corn"? humm... Maybe not...). I really can't understand all the context behind her ideas and her bizarre look (and "everybody" thinks that Lady Gaga is the most eccentric artist... they definitely don't know Anna-Varney), but her music is amazing and I'd expect no less from this last EP when I decided to hear it for the first time yesterday. And it did not fail!

You can already hear the new Swallow The Sun album from their official webpage (http://www.swallowthesun.net/site/). I've listened to it and quite enjoyed it. It has more melancholy and it is less "aggressive" (I mean that it has less harsh vocals and the music is also not so heavy) than the previous ones. I guess I like this "evolution" very much. It has a lot of feeling and it sounds very relaxing. I would like to see them live again. Last time I saw them was not memorable. It was nice, but it lacked the feeling I can get from their albums. I am hoping that seeing them again would be better, because last time I saw them after many great bands in a metal fest and their concert did not stand out as I was expecting. I don't know... The power of music is absolutely amazing! I am down with many things that have been happening to me lately, but still I can keep myself calm when I listen to this new artist that I came across: Adam Hurst. He is an award winning cellist and by listening to his music you can easily understand why.
