Trees of Eternity is the collaboration project between the Finnish guitarrist Juha Raivio (from Swallow the Sun - amazing doom metal band that you should check out if you don't know them yet!) and Aleah (she sings on the two latest Swallow the Sun albums... they are mandatory if you like doom metal!). They describe their music as "down-tempo, doom/death inspired melancholia with ghostly female vocals". If you are getting curious about this band and you want to hear it, prepare yourself for depressive and deep loss lyrics, sad acoustic melody and an amazing and unique voice. It is like a sweet whisper that seems to exist only inside our conscience and not in our own reality telling us about our biggest fears, our greatest disappointments, our worst pains... and this experience is not painful at all. On the contrary, you will certainly find yourself mesmerized with this. You need to hear it to know what I mean. I get goosebumps when I hear their music...
Today I need to hear those lame self-esteem songs, i.e., those who tell you: "hey... you can do it!!". It's so damn hard to believe in myself. :S It's so damn hard to go on when you simply don't know what you are really up to... I've always been able to find a way out. This time it won't be different. I just need a few lame songs like this one from Edenbridge (see the video below) to gain a little of self-esteem. Does it work? No... but let's pretend it does. In the meanwhile, I'm talking about another band here. Maybe not a good one... Who cares? Who am I to say if it is a good band or not? Can you see how bad is my self-esteem today? This blog is all about me saying what I think about sounds and all the stuff related to it and today I am lacking in confidence. -_- Damn!!! Well... back to the band... I never really liked Edenbridge (so... why are you mentioning it?). It's not that I can't hear it... Oh no... Edenbridge is totally hearable (if saying it like this makes any sense). The thing is Edenbridge does not stand out (like most symphonic metal bands... or maybe I just don't like symphonic metal anymore and today I feel like writing about it and being extremely confusing at the same time). However, I do feel like hearing "Higher" as it sounds like a good lame self-esteem song. And the video has that medieval scenery that I love... Guilty on that!
I have been under a lot of stress lately and I've been needing something slow and heavy to keep me sane while working. Ankhagram has been a very good choice. Their last album "Thoughts" has been truly inspiring. Does atmospheric funeral doom death sound attractive for you? If so, try the song in the video. =)
Today I'm starting a new tag: Sounds on the radio... I've been listening to a lot of online radios lately and I've noticed that some of them are very underrated. Although my webspace is underrated as well (cof cof cof cof :X), I've decided to share them and I'll be presenting the first one today which is Café Europa.
So sit, take a coffee (don't offer me one, because I hate coffee, but thanks anyway), go to this website and listen to all the program radios that you will find there... They worth your time (believe me!). They will surely keep you in the good company with neofolk, folk and martial sounds (and more similar genres).
Café Europa plays every monday from 20h to 22h on a local radio in Portugal (R@dio Ás from Aveiro). Therefore, once a week, a different program will be upload on this website:
